INSTRUCTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED FOR INSTALLATION OF THIS NEW FIRMWARE. Failure to follow instructions will most likely result in a trip to the repair facility.

1. It is very important, while installing the new firmware, to unplug all CAT cables from the back of the SPE amplifier. These CAT cables will be reconnected after it is proven that the firmware was installed properly. Failure to do so will most likely result in a trip to the repair facility.

2. CAUTION:To disconnect and reconnect CAT cables, please TURN OFF both the transceiver and the amplifier.The reason is that the CAT connectors can be shorted out during the removal and reconnecting, which can possibly cause damage to your transceiver, and/or amplifier. It is recommended to always connect/disconnect with ham equipment OFF. Failure to do so will most likely result in a trip to the repair facility.

3. After installation of firmware, and before reconnecting the CAT cables, look for the FLASHING TRIANGLE. See below. Failure to do so will most likely result in a trip to the repair facility.

4. TESTING FOR FLASHING TRIANGLE.To see this triangle: Turn amp off and then back on. While in standby, push the CAT button on front panel, twice to see “SYSTEM INFO”.To the left of SYSTEM INFO, you should see a flashing triangle.If this triangle is NOT flashing, then the two CPUs in the SPE amp are not communicating and the amplifier will not PTT or KEY, in standby or Operate mode.

5. If the triangle test is flashing, reconnect… but ONLY with both the transceiver and amp turned off. Failure to do so will most likely result in a trip to the repair facilityIf the triangle is NOT flashing, then repeat the installation one more time.If flashing triangle doesn’t appear, notify us and we will help.

Firmware Version:

As of August 6, 2026 Users in the USA that plan on using this new LAN Box will most likely need to update their firmware. If you are not planning on using the LAN box anytime soon it will not be necessary to update to the new firmware.

To check your current firmware version ensure the amp is powered on and press the CAT button twice.

Please make sure to install the correct firmware version for your amplifier. Do not install 1.5K-FA firmware on your 1.5K-FA Taurus. Make sure that you are installing the correct firmware for your amplifier. Failure to do so will most likely result in a trip to the repair facility.

Note: Here are the different PK extensions: .pk1 is for 2KFA, .pk2 is for 1.3KFA, .pk3 is for 1.5KFA, .pk4 is for 1.5K Taurus, and .pk5 is for 1K Taurus

.pk# extension.... example 08_06_26_A.pk1 is for 2KFA.... Note that the NEW 1.5K and 1K Taurus's FW is named a bit differently. Make sure to install the correct firmware for your model. Failure to do so will most likely result in a trip to the repair facility.

The Download links are below. These downloads are not on the SPE site. The "latest firmware" on the SPE site does not give you LAN compatibility. Notice there is no download for the older 1K-FA. It is not supported at this time. This firmware is confirmed to work with Series Three 1.3K, 1.5K, and 2K. It has not been confirmed fromed the factory if it will work with older series one and two units. We are waiting to hear back on that. It will work on The 1.5K Taurus and 1.0K Taurus
